Beginners Italian I (ITAL 201) – Attending an Event

New Cultural Event in Italian

All’evento noi abbiamo guardato i film “Ciao Professore”. All’evento ho incontrato studenti di italiano.

Reflection on Cultural Passport

Overall, I had a great time with the cultural passport events. The event with Dr. Balma was insightful and I learned a lot in a short amount of time. Although there wasn’t a lot of Italian spoken I feel like I found the literary history and how it connected to Italy to be interesting. Honestly, I am surprised how little I knew about Edith Brooks before then. However, that event made me want to learn more about her and hopefully read some of her books one day. I had a fun time in Il Circolino, getting to practice some speech in Italian in a more casual setting was nice. It was also nice to meet other students taking Italian. My only issue is that I struggled to go as much as I wanted due to conflicts with my class schedule. The movie night where we watched“Ciao Professore” was super fun. It was a charming movie and I feel like it helped me learn more about Italian culture, especially the North vs South dynamic Italy has. It also helped me test my listening ability to see what words I knew. My main issues were that the subtitles didn’t always match the words spoken and Italian feels incredibly fast when compared to English. I do wish I was able to go to the other Italian club events, they looked like so much fun but, I hope I can attend more next semester. The whole cultural passport did help me connect to Italian culture and made me want to learn more about Italian culture. Hopefully I will visit Italy someday.
